Which Garbage Disposal is the quietest?

Garbage Disposal Lineup (side view - small)

Ask 10 different people to define “noise” and you will probably get 10 different answers.

Noise is super subjective and so is the lack of noise. As such, a garbage disposal described as “quiet” can seem confusing because for every couple of reviews of a disposal being quiet, you will still find one or two that say it sounds like a freight train.

Yet most maintain that since they are paying good money for an appliance to obliterate their food waste with the touch of a button, it had better do the job while quietly purring like a kitten so as not to further disturb the peace of their well-run, meticulously maintained kitchen

Both are valid perspectives.

If you fall into the second category of those looking for a quiet disposal for any reason, this article is for you.

In this article we will take a look at the quietest garbage disposal on the market and get an in-depth view of what makes this particular model stand out for its exceptional noise control. Unlike past buying guides where we highlight a handful of our favorite products, here we are only going to look at one disposal. The caveat is that there are other quiet disposals on the market, but this one stands out as the quietest and, as you’ll see, you don’t have to take our word for it.

InSinkErator Evolution Excel, 1 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal

InSinkerator Evolution (1 HP)

Earning a place in a category all its own, from our list of the best garbage disposals, comes the InSinkErator Evolution Excel.

This 1 HP unit takes grinding your food waste seriously but also manages to do it so quietly that customers have compared the sound to the faucet running. Some reviewers who perhaps doubted the performance of such a quiet disposal tested the Evolution Excel with things like a bunch of ice cubes, or, (my favorite example) an entire bag of oranges.

Although we don’t actually recommend this sort of test, these customers claimed complete satisfaction when the ice cubes and oranges were gone in a matter of seconds and they had to do a double take to make sure the disposal was even on.

Why So Quiet?

So what is the secret here? How on earth does InSinkErator do it? The key features are the company’s own “Sound Seal Plus” as well as a heavy duty baffle which muffles sound. In fact, this little feature reportedly makes the Evolution Excel 60% quieter then competitors.

This is corroborated in the many reviews of this product specifically with regards to noise control. At a 5 star rating for noise it would seem that the Evolution “Excel” does just that in the sound department.

More To Love

The Evolution Excel's motor can increase torque by 500% when it senses a jam so you won’t need that Alan wrench to free the disposal the old fashioned way from the bottom of the spin shaft.

It also comes with a 10 year in-home warranty, which we think says a lot for the confidence of InSinkErator in its product. If you have a problem they will come to your home for 10 years to physically fix the disposal at no charge. If that wasn’t convincing enough the company also offers a special 7-year parts warranty to contractors.

InSinkErator believes in its product and thinks you should too.

Any drawbacks?

The only cons we would cite with the Evolution Excel is that it is a bit pricier than some others and it weighs about 20 lbs which is on the heavy side for a garbage disposal. Both of these factors can be seen as cons but they are also not surprising to us or most reviewers. Most people didn’t mind paying top dollar for a disposal this good and even though a disposal weighing 20 lbs. could be hard to support during installation most said it was a small price to pay for such an incredible product.

Conclusion

We're a fan of the Evolution Excel garbage disposal.

Bobby, who writes for Dispozal, just moved and put one in his new home's kitchen.

We aren’t claiming that it is perfect for everyone, but if you are shopping around and want a tough, durable disposal that can handle whatever you dish out and miraculously stay nearly silent while doing it, you won’t find a better option than this one. InSinkErator's experience and commitment to excellent products and also to pushing boundaries in technology definitely shows in the Evolution Excel.
